9 Films About Gladiator & Ancient Rome

"Many roads lead to Rome" maybe that is a phrase we often hear. But why should we go to Rome? What is interesting about Rome? Here we are discussing about the movie with the theme of ancient Rome. Apparently there are quite a few rows of films that tell about the city of Rome in antiquity. Here is a list of movies about Rome that tell you about amazing legends, myths, history, and adventures.




1. Gladiator (2000)





Maximus was a powerful Roman general and loved by his people. Because of Maximus's loyalty and kindness, the Roman Emperor strongly believed in Maximus and left his throne to Maximus before he died. This made the son of the Emperor Commodus jealous and slaughtered the entire family of Maximus. Although he is very strong and invincible, but Maximus can not save his own family.

Eventually Maximus was captured and put in a Gladiator match and had to fight to death. He is determined to fight and defeat all his opponents until Maximus becomes the greatest and reaches the top of the gladiator stage to avenge his family and to overthrow the entire Roman empire.




2. Spartacus: War of the Damned (TV Series: 2010–)





Tells the story of Thracian Spartacus Gladiator, who led a slave uprising against the Roman Republic. Spartacus was sentenced to death as a Gladiator, while his wife Sura was enslaved for the rest of her life. Spartacus, however, proved to be a great gladiator, and defeated all four gladiators in charge of executing him. He became the favorite gladiator of the citizens of Rome, who made Senator Albinius turn the death penalty of Spartacus into a lifetime slave.

Spartacus was purchased by Batiatus for gladiator training. He promises to help Spartacus find his wife Sura, if he proves himself to be a great gladiator in training.




3. Rome (TV Series: 2005–)





In this English historical drama, it tells the story of the Roman republic's journey to the autocratic kingdom, which changed the history of the world through civil war and war of conquest. The film will be depicted from the point of view of an aristocrat named Julius Caesar and his family, as well as his successors adopted by Octavian Augustus, and his political allies and enemies.

There is also a naive point of view from the politics of some ordinary Romans, especially the army of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo and their families.




4. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (TV Series: 2011)

9. Pompeii (2014)





Set in 79 AD, POMPEII tells the epic story of Milo (Kit Harington), a slave who becomes an invincible gladiator who has to race against time to save his true love, Cassia (Emily Browning). Cassia is a beautiful princess, daughter of a rich merchant who had been engaged to a corrupt Senator Roman. As Mount Vesuvius erupts and takes out the blazing lava, Milo has to get out of the arena to save his lover while the great Pompeii is crushed all around him.
