15 Anti-Mainstream Superhero Films

Speaking of superheroes, we are always curious about the next story of every Marvel and DC superhero movies that airs every year. Although both comic books are cool and very nice, but there are also a variety of unique superhero movies that are not included in Marvel and DC Universe. Maybe some of this movie you've already watched, but maybe you've never watched some of them because they are not too famous. Here's a list of anti-mainstream superhero movies that are no less good with Marvel and DC.




1. Watchmen (2009)





Tells of a group of superheroes who have retired from their heroism. They intend to live a normal life. However, a few years later when one of them was killed mysteriously. Rorschach, one of the most active members of Watchmen, decided to investigate the case. While elsewhere, the third world war was churning. Can Watchmen stop it?

This is not an ordinary superhero movie, not many action scenes and the story tends to be confusing and difficult to understand, so not everyone can enjoy this movie. One thing to note is, this superhero movie is intended for adult audiences and not for children. There are many adult scenes in this movie.




2. Kick-Ass Series





Have you ever thought of becoming a superhero? A super hero who defeats all sorts of criminals. But we always imagine the super powers of superheroes. What if we do not have anything? Can we still be a superhero? Maybe this movie can answer it. This film tells the story of an ordinary high school kid named Dave. He decides to become a superhero even though he has nothing, no superpowers, not too smart, does not have as much money as Batman and has no special purpose to do so.




3. The Punisher Series





An FBI agent named Frank Castle had everything. His life is happy and affluent with his wife and family. But when his whole family was slaughtered by a corrupt businessman, Frank was back again to become a new man. Now it is time for Frank to take revenge on all those who have done evil to him and upheld justice in his own way.




4. Megamind (2010)





A super villain named Megamind has managed to beat Metro Man, superhero and his arch-enemy after a long struggle. Finally Megamind can rule and get whatever he wants in the world. However, after all his dreams come true, Megamind now get upset, bored and lost the purpose of his life. There will be no more superheroes who will fight against him and stop Megamind. No more tense action and exciting battles.

To overcome all that, Megamind finally got the idea to create a new superhero named Tighten with the same great power as Metro Man. However, it turns out Tighten is not a good person and can not be a hero, he did not try to fight Megamind but instead destroy the city after being dumped by a woman. Now Megamind had to snap Tighten and save the entire Metro city.




5. Hellboy Series





By the end of World War II, the Nazis tried to use magic to open portals to other worlds to help them. The Allies attacked the camp where the magic ceremony took place, but Hellboy, the devil from hell has made it into the human world. Hellboy joined the Allied forces and eventually grew into adulthood. He began to work for the good side and became an evil exterminator.




6. The Incredibles Series





Bob Parr (AKA Incredible), and his wife Helen (AKA Elastigirl), are well-known superheroes against various crimes in the Metroville world. They always save lives and fight crime every day, but fifteen years later, this superhero family decides to retire and live a normal life as an ordinary person. Both live in the suburbs with their three children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack (who also have the same super powers as their parents). Bob who is now an office worker, feel homesick and want to be in action again as a superhero.

When the big turmoil hit the city, they finally got the chance to be in action again. This can only be solved by a super-united family effort to save the world from total destruction.




7. Hancock (2008)





John Hancock is a powerful superhero but he is an alcoholic and his behavior is reckless. That caused him to be the most hated man in Los Angeles. Although Hancock has saved many people, but he also often destroy many properties in the city and cause many losses. One time, Hancock managed to rescue a man named Ray Embrey from a train accident. Ray is very grateful to Hancock and he wants to help Hancock to become a good superhero so people can like him.




8. The Crow (1994)





A guitarist named Eric Draven was revived by a crow a year after he and his fiancé were killed. Eric decides to take revenge with the raven's help against the mobs who have killed him. But the leader of the mobster is a very cruel criminal who is very dangerous. Will Eric succeed?




9. Darkman (1990)





Peyton Westlake is a scientist who has found a way to produce synthetic skin. This could be a skin grafting revolution in the medical world. There is, however, a very fatal weakness to Peyton's discovery. This synthetic skin can melt after 100 minutes of exposure to light. One day, Peyton was attacked by thugs and his skin burned down. He is assumed died, but Peyton finally gets up and intends to take revenge. Peyton, aka Darkman, can be transformed into anyone using his synthetic skin, even though he has only 100 minutes each time he disguised.




10. Spawn (1997)





An assassin named Al Simmons was deceived and killed by his evil boss Jason Wynn. As a result Al goes to hell and makes a covenant with the devil to return to Earth as Spawn to meet his wife. He was ordered by the devil, The Clown, to kill Wynn. But it turns out Wynn has also made a deal with Clown and must destroy the world with a deadly virus that will help start Doomsday and start a war between Heaven and Hell. Between good and evil, which one should Spawn choose?




11. Mystery Men (1999)





A group of incompetent amateur superheroes must rescue the people in the city when a super villain threatens to destroy the superheroes and the whole town. This is a comedy movie, so do not be surprised that the story will be a bit strange. The superheroes in this movie are also ordinary people who do not have special powers.




12. Birdman (2014)





Riggan Thomson is a famous actor for his role in the iconic comic superhero movie titled "Birdman" more than twenty years ago. The role of the superhero took over his life, where Birdman is more famous than the "Riggan Thomson" the actor. Now, in the past middle age, Riggan tries to build his career back as a true artist by writing, directing, starring and producing his own Broadway drama along with his best friend Jake. But Riggan's struggle is not easy.




13. Blade Series





In a world where vampires exist, there is a half-vampire and half-human named Blade who protects humans and exterminates evil vampires.




14. Daredevil (2003)





When Matt Murdock was a child, he experienced an accident that caused his eyes to become blind. Since then he has grown into a blind man and became a lawyer. Because his eyes can not see, other members of Matt's body like the sense of hearing and the sense of smell become more sensitive than normal people. With his martial skills, Matt can become a superhero and bring justice to those who cannot be touch by law.




15. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)





When a super criminal shows up and threatens New York City, a group of mutated turtle warriors must rise from the underground and get out of the shadows of the city to protect their home.
